{ Wrap-up } My First SapphicAThon & May Wrap-up

Hello friends,

I’m coming back today with a new wrap up. I don’t often do monthly wrap-ups as I don’t see the point of writing an article about the 3-4 books I read and probably already reviewed, however, this month is particular because I entered the SapphicAThon. If you haven’t heard of it, SapphicAThon is a week-long readathon (May 18-25) dedicated to reading books about sapphic romances! You can find more information about the readathon on the twitter page. You may already know that I, as a bisexual person, don’t find enough good f-f romances in books so I was ecstatic to enter this readathon for the first time. Since I’m a quite slow reader, I wanted to make the fun last longer and also to have more chance to fill the categories, so I decided to spread this throughout May. Here are the categories:

1. SAPPHIC BOOKS

Morgane Moncomble – Aime-moi Je Te Fuis
Reread a book & Book with a trope you love (enemies-to-lovers)
Rating: 5 stars (my review 🇫🇷)
Date read: April 30th – May 2nd

Aime-moi Je Te Fuis is a book that you can only find in French, so I’m sorry in advance for those who will not be able to read it, but I HAVE to spread the love I have for it. It’s about Zoé, a bisexual girl (yay!) and the representation is amazingly written. The chapters alternate between present and past, the present love interest is male, but the past chapters are about a relationship with a girl.

Katrina Leno – Summer of Salt

Rating: 3 stars
Date read: May 3rd – May 5th

I buddy read this book, therefore when we planned to read this book in May I didn’t know about the SapphicAThon yet, but since this book is about a lesbian MC, it fits perfectly in this challenge. However, I regret that the romance didn’t hold a central part of this book, actually, it’s role was so minimal that without it, the book’s would have remained the same.

Alice Oseman – Heartstopper (Volumes 1, 2 & 3)
Read a Graphic Novel
Rating: 4 stars – 5 stars – 5 stars
Date read: May 6th – May 8th

Okay, I know what you’re going to say, this isn’t a sapphic romance, but we have many sapphic side characters and that should matter. Also, it’s the only Graphic Novel that was on my TBR, I seldom read graphic novels so if you have you loved, recommend away 🙂 Speaking of Heartstopper, I ADORED those three books, it was so cute and so heartwarming.

Adiba Jaigirdar – The Henna Wars
Book with a trope you love (enemies-to-lovers) & By an author of colour
Rating: 4.2 stars
Date read: May 18th – May 21st

This book was so freaking cute. The MC is Bengali and she lives in Ireland. This book taught me so much about Bengali culture, I have a Bengali friend from India but I didn’t know anything about Bengali from Bangladesh. It also taught me a lot about the Irish school system that I found super interesting. I liked to read about a lesbian character trying coming out in a conservative family.

Ashley Herring Blake – Girl Made of Stars
A book that has been on your TBR a long time (June 2018)
Rating: 4.8 stars
Date read: May 22nd – May 26th

This book made me so emotional. It deals with difficult subjects such as rape and rape victims. I don’t want to give too many details but it was really difficult for me to read sometimes, but still, it was necessary and important. Add to that a bisexual MC and a non-binary love interest and you have an amazing deep story.

Elizabeth Acevedo – Clap When You Land

I’m not done with this book yet, I was supposed to finish it by the end of May but I got busy with work. However, so far so good, I’ll come back and update this post once I’m done with it

2. NON-SAPPHIC BOOKS

Michelle Obama – Becoming
Rating: 3.9 stars
Date read: May 9th – May 17th

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with this one. Everyone told me it was a masterpiece and a must-read but it didn’t reach my expectations. It was good, I’ll not say the opposite, but I still had some issues with it that I’ll try to discuss further in my upcoming review.

– Sophie @Me and Ink posted a discussion about consumerism in the book community.
– Alice @Love For Words shares 9+ Websites All Readers Should Know About and I only knew one of them, however, all the other filled a need I always had while reading.
– May @Forever and Everly listed 25 Books by Asian Authors to read, this list was written for Asian Heritage Month but you really should read them anytime.
– Jessticulates wrote a list of YA book by black authors that you should add to your TBR and I loved the book she picked.
